DR. KITTY FADLU- DEEN.....
Dr. Kitty Fadlu-Deen is the
co-founder and Principal of the Ballanta Academy of Music. Her D. Phil is from the University of York and her M.A. and B. Mus from the National University of Ireland. She also holds the LRSM (performing) and LRAM (Teaching) as well as the Diploma in Music Teaching from National University of Ireland.
Formerly Head of the Performing Arts Department at the Milton Margai Teachers College, she teaches piano, theory, harmony, voice, form and analysis, and runs workshops. Her arrangements of Sierra Leone songs for SATB are frequently performed by the Ballanta Music Makers. She is the author of ‘Milo and all that Jazz’ published by Sondiata Global Media and ‘Musical Instruments and Spirit Masks of Sierra Leone’ published by the Sierra Leone Writers Series. She was appointed a Commissioner of the Monuments and Relics Commission from 2014 - 2018. She won an award from the Zonta Club of Freetown, a Special Recognition Award from AWOL in 2006, a Woman of Excellence Award from the Golden Jubilee awards in 2011, and The Lifetime Achievement Award from Sisters Choice in 2017.
